The staff at the Varden were terrific. Service was, without exception, excellent in every way. Location of the hotel was perfect for the major attractions of coastal Long Beach and the hotel was interesting from a historical perspective. Definitely not just another giant chain hotel.
The free "continental breakfast" was a bit spartan for my taste, but this is not an important complaint, as there are a number of other choices for breakfast nearby.

The best service ever from wonderful staff who really make me feel like a guest instead of a paying customer. That combined with a perfect location for Long Beach make the Varden a great choice.
The rooms were a bit small and the window looked onto a brick wall.

The staff at The Varden are awesome; very friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel is well located, and the rooms are clean, comfortable & well designed. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Parking is a little limited.

Staff is really helpful and nice. Rooms are very cozy although the sink is a bit small. It is modernly decorated, with a very good taste. Staff takes care of all little details of the hotel with lots of care. My stay was great!!!
If I have to say something: the sink was very small. There is a shelf just slightly above it, so it is a bit difficult for instance to wahs your face without pouring water out. But this is just a very small unimportant detail from a very nice hotel.

The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to provide us with information, coupons, etc., knew us and the other guests by name, and clearly had a lot of repeat guests.

The location was great, within walking distance to many sights and restaurants.
The room was tiny, no room to move around. The bed was small and jammed into the corner of the room. Zero view!!

great clean modern design. comfortable bed. perfect for one person. windows open. also, Melissa, front desk gal was really super sweet and kind. I even got offered a glass of nice wine on the way to my room which really hit the spot!

very small rooms the bed is located direct at the wall you look outside the window and in front of you is a wall 1 meter away so you think you are in a prison
